The Biblical Zoo is located in a beautiful valley southwest of Jerusalem, and covers an area of hundreds of dunams.
The garden has a system of ponds, a large lake, and interconnected waterfalls. Extensive lawns and plenty of shady corners surround the water sources. The lake is artificial and its water is purified and recycled. The garden is built on two levels, along which are the animal displays, and the movement route is circular. The two levels are connected by paths, which contain additional displays.
The Zoo, which is a limited liability company and a non-profit organization (non-profit institution), is the result of a joint effort and investment by the Jerusalem Municipality, the Jerusalem Foundation, the Jerusalem Development Authority, and the Ministry of Tourism. The zoo's shares are divided equally between the Jerusalem Municipality, the Jerusalem Foundation, and the Jerusalem Development Authority. The zoo's board of directors has 18 members representing the various entities.
